Lakehead wrestling lands Kingston recruits

Heather Brosseau and Chris Waltner can at least say they’ll know someone when they arrive in Thunder Bay.

The high school teammates have agreed to join the Lakehead Thunderwolves wrestling team, continuing their career together after graduating from Kingston, Ont.’s Holly Cross Catholic Secondary School.

Brousseau, who finished sixth at the Ontario provincial championship this year, was the Eastern Ontario high school champion the past two seasons.

She’s also go deep ties to the university.

“Many of my family members have attended Lakehead University, including my older brother Mark, who wrestles as a Thunderwolf. Together, we are following in the footsteps of our aunt Trish (Pat Brousseau) who was the Lakehead female athlete of the year during the early 1970s for field hockey and basketball,” she said in a release issued by the team.

Waltner went undefeated in 2013, winning the Ontario Federation of Superior Secondary Schools Association gold in the 54-kilogram category.

“Lakehead was my first choice because of the smaller class sizes and the welcoming atmosphere that comes with a smaller university. I also appreciate the opportunity to train with quality wrestlers and an exceptional coaching staff. I'm looking forward to wrestling as  a Lakehead Thunderwolf,” he said.
