Lancers women crack century mark against Thunderwolves

The Windsor Lancers women don’t take kindly to being outplayed – even for a quarter.

The Lakehead Thunderwolves made that mistake Friday night, escaping the first period with a 17-15 lead.

The Lancers, the two-time defending CIS women’s basketball champions, made them pay in the second quarter, ripping off an incredible 39 points en route to a 104-55 home-court pasting, just the second time this season an OUA squad has cracked the century plateau.

Not surprisingly it was the Lancers, the No. 2 team in the nation behind Saint Mary’s, turned the trick. Early this month they crushed Algoma 104-25.

Korissa Williams led the Windsor charge, scoring 22 points. Teammate Jocelyn Larocque added 17 for the Lancers, who led 54-31 at the half.

Kelsey Bardsley, who hit six three-pointers, led LU with 22. Ayse Kalkan was the only other Thunderwolves player to hit double digits, scoring 13.

The loss drops Lakehead to 4-5, sixth in the OUA West. Windsor, Western and Laurier are tied atop the conference at 8-1.
The Wolves and Lancers will tangle again on Saturday.
