Lebov keys Thunderwolves hard court win

It was a first-half of the season to forget, but the Lakehead Thunderwolves started the second half of the season off in winning fashion.

It was a first-half of the season to forget, but the Lakehead Thunderwolves started the second half of the season off in winning fashion.

Igor Lebov scored a game-high 15 points on Friday night, one of four Lakehead starters to crack double digits, and the Wolves (4-7) cruised to a 76-48 win over the visiting Waterloo Warriors (1-10) at the Thunderdome.

Anthony McIntosh and Dwayne Harvey each chipped in 13 points for LU, with first-year guard Henry Tan added 12. Joey Nitychoruk, making his season debut, returning from a foot injury that sidelined him the entire first half, had seven points in seven minutes of action.

Jaspreet Gill, coming off a 31-point performance earlier in the week in an upset win over Toronto, their first and only win of the season, had 12 to lead the Warriors.

"We had moments when we played the way we're capable of. I was very pleased with the way we responded after the half. Tomorrow's another day and we have to improve on some of the areas we discussed after the game,” said LU coach Matt Erdman in a release.

Beyond the arc: Three-point specialist Nathan Wainwright's season has come to a premature end. The fourth-year guard will travel to southern Ontario next week to schedule back surgery.
