WINDSOR, Ont. – This year’s Memorial Cup championship will have at least two people involved with ties to Thunder Bay.

Defenceman Chase Stewart, who played for the Thunder Bay Kings and then briefly with the Thunder Bay North Stars, earned his way to the Canadian Hockey League’s final four tournament on Wednesday night.

Stewart mans the blue-line for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Saint John Sea Dogs, who downed the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada 5-1 to clinch the third league title in franchise history.

The 20-year-old Stewart had three goals and eight assists for the Sea Dogs during the regular season, adding three helpers in 18 playoff appearances.

Former NHLer Trevor Letowski is the other Thunder Bay link. Letowski is an associate coach with the host Windsor Spitfires, who have an automatic bid into the tournament.
