Katherine Stewart-Jones from the National Team Development Centre Thunder Bay continued laying down strong performances for Canada at her first World Nordic Ski Championships in Lahti, Finland.
Late last week in the women’s 10 kilometre classic event, Katherine crossed the line as the top Canadian in 36th place in a field of 72 of the world’s best female skiers.
Stewart-Jones then flew through the first leg of the team relay for the Canadian women, posting the eighth-fastest first leg in the whole field. After the strong start, the women finished in 10th place, the third best ever result for a Canadian women’s relay team.
The week of competition wrapped up for the women on Saturday with the gruelling 30 kilometres skate event, where Stewart-Jones posted another solid result, finishing in 41st.
The 22-year-old NTDC Thunder Bay athlete now returns to Thunder Bay for some final preparations before heading home to Quebec for the World Cup Finals, held on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City from March 17th-19th.
