For a second straight night the Thunder Bay Border Cats had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth.

For a second straight night the Thunder Bay Border Cats had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth.

For a second straight night, the Cats failed to find the clutch hit needed even the contest up, leading to another 5-4 loss and an 0-2 start to the second half of the Northwoods League season.

James Bonds, who was 2-for-2 , singled with one out in the ninth, then moved up 90 feet on Adam Landecker’s one-base hit.
But Scott Donley struck out swinging and Patrick Gallagher flew to left, blowing a late comeback that saw Thunder Bay score a pair of runs in the seventh tie knot the game 4-4.

Scott Donley homered in the sixth to pull the Cats to within a pair.

Thunder Bay starter James Buckelew lasted three batters into the fifth, before being lifted for Wes Parsons.

Buckelew allowed four runs, only three of them earned, on five hits.

Chad Richie (2-2) picked up the loss, giving up a Davide Andriese solo home run, a blast that proved to be the difference.

Derek Howell (3-0), who took over from Seth Webster in the seventh, earned the win. Patrick Goelz entered in the ninth and grabbed his 12th save and helped the Moon Dogs win their 11th straight.

Thunder Bay returns to the friendly confines of Port Arthur Stadium on Saturday for the start of a series against Alexandria.
