The university basketball career of Carolyn Fragale has come to an abrupt close.

The university basketball career of Carolyn Fragale has come to an abrupt close.

Fragale netted a team-high 18 points Saturday night, but the Lakehead Thunderwolves fell way short in a must-win situation, falling 87-71 to the host McMaster Marauders, ending their run at an OUA women’s basketball playoff berth.

The Wolves finished 7-14 on the season, tied with Guelph for sixth place in the OUA West, but the Gryphons took the tiebreaker, outscoring LU in splitting two match-ups earlier this season.

Ayse Kalkan finished with 16 and Kelsey Bardsley chipped in 12 for the Thunderwolves.

Hailey Milligan led the Marauders back from a five-point halftime deficit – in a game they trailed by as much as 11 in the opening half – scoring 24 points. Vanessa Bonomo had 20 and Danielle Boiaga wound up with 19 for McMaster (12-9).

The Marauders host Guelph on Wednesday in their playoff opener.
