WINNIPEG -- Rookie Ryan Doornick had the hot hand Monday, leading the Lakehead Thunderwolves to an upset win over the No. 7 team in the nation.

Doornick hit six three-pointers in the 72-61 triumph at the expense of the Calgary Dinos, en route to a season-high 24-point night as the Wolves evened their record at 1-1 at the Wesmen Classic in Winnipeg.

Freshman Mor Menashe added 20 points for the winning side.

Lakehead will take on Regina in Tuesday’s 3 p.m. EST consolation final. The Cougars downed NAIT 73-58 on Monday.

"We faced a very physical Calgary team today. I'm happy with how our guys responded to the physical nature of the game. We still need to make better decisions down the stretch and rebound better against bigger teams. It's nice to see some shots drops for us, finally, from the three-point line,” said Lakehead coach Manny Furtado in a release.

Winless Calgary will take on NAIT in the seventh-place game.
