VANCOUVER -- The struggling Lakehead Thunderwolves dropped another tight one on their journey to Canada’s west coast.
Bacarius Dinkins dropped 24 points on Friday night, but it wasn’t enough as the Wolves fell 82-78 at the hands of the UNBC Timberwolves in Vancouver.
It’s a game LU led by as much as 19 in the second quarter.
But a 9-0 run by the Timberwolves cut the lead to seven by the half and it was all UNBC from there. UNBC pulled to within four by the end of the third and took their first lead with two minutes to go in regulation.
Down four, Wais Mohamed drew Lakehead within one with a late three-pointer, but the game went to the charity stripe and the Timberwolves hung on for the victory.
Dinkins added six rebounds to his two-dozen points, while guard Henry Tan finished with 21.
Tyrell Laing was the leader for UNBC, scoring 22 points.
“Defensively we are not getting it done and offensively were not making good decisions. The only good thing is this is still non-conference and we have one more game, versus a top 5 team in the country, tomorrow to get on the right track,” said LU coach Manny Furtado in a release issued by the team.
The men will play their final non-conference game against UBC tomorrow at 7 p.m. PDT.
Lakehead opens the OUA regular season next Saturday night at home against Algoma.
