THUNDER BAY – Manny Furtado has added another piece to the Lakehead Thunderwolves backcourt.
The men’s basketball coach on Thursday announced Manitoban Jon Hayter, a six-foot guard from the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers, will suit up with the OUA T-Wolves this fall.
Hayter was one of the top players in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference, finishing third in scoring with a 16.9 points-per-game average.
He was also sixth in rebounding, third in blocks and finished in the top 20 in steals.
"I chose Lakehead because of the support I felt on my visit from both the academic department and basketball team," Hayter said in a release issued by the Thunderwolves.
"I think Lakehead University is the best school for me to succeed as a student athlete. I'm looking forward to helping the team make a run at a championship and pursue my degree in Kinesiology."
Furtado said landing Hayter is a step forward for the program.
“We are very pleased that Jon has accepted his offer to study Kinesology here at Lakehead and be a part of our basketball program," Furtado said.
"Jon is a very athletic point guard that can get the ball up the floor quickly. His ability to defend and rebound as a guard will help our team going forward."
