McCarville falls short in 3-4 Page Playoff

Another miraculous comeback just wasn’t in the cards for Thunder Bay’s Krista McCarville foursome.

Another miraculous comeback just wasn’t in the cards for Thunder Bay’s Krista McCarville foursome.

McCarville, who stole two in an extra end Friday night to earn a berth in the 3-4 Page Playoff at the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Kitchener-Waterloo Granite Club, battled back in her rematch with Sherry Middaugh.

But it wasn’t enough and McCarville’s drive for five came to an end.

Middaugh took out the four-time champion with a 9-7 win, scoring two in the ninth after McCarville had stormed back with three in the eighth to tie the game 7-7.

Middaugh, a former winner of the event in her own right, will take on Cathy Auld in Sunday’s semifinal, the winner heading to the final later in the day against unbeaten Rachel Homan, looking for a second title in three years.
