Krista McCarville is off to a 2-0 start at the Road to the Roar in Kitchener, Ont.
The Thunder Bay skip had planned to take a year off from competitive curling, but instead pushed back those plans a season, hoping for a shot at representing Canada at the upcoming Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
On Wednesday she moved one step closer to realizing that dream, knocking off Calgary’s Cheryl Bernard foursome 6-5, improving to 2-0 at the triple-knockout pre-trials.
The top two rinks on the women’s side advance to the Olympic trials next month in Winnipeg.
McCarville, who defeated Crystal Webster 9-8 in Tuesday’s opening draw, scored one with the hammer in the first, then stole points in three successive ends to take a 4-0 lead.
But up 6-1 through seven, McCarville gave up two in the eighth and surrendered steals of one in the ninth and 10th to turn a runaway match into a nail-biter.
Next up for McCarville, Sarah Potts, Kari Lavoie and Ashleigh Miharija is a Wednesday night date with two-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Kelly Scott’s British Columbia 2-0 foursome.
