ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – Krista McCarville wasn’t about to let this one get away.
The Thunder Bay skip burst out to a 7-1 lead on Tuesday night in Draw 10 against British Columbia’s Marla Mallett at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, and unlike the night before when she blew a 6-2 lead at the break, this time she didn’t let a couple of points by her opponent rattle her play.
The 34-year-old McCarville took a single in the eighth end, ending the match with the Northern Ontario team in front 8-3.
It was the second win of the day for Team McCarville, who improved to 4-2, leaving them alone in fifth place at the national women’s curling championship in St. Catharines.
Eve Belisle’s Quebec team sits in fourth at 5-2, having won five straight after dropping its first two matches.
Ontario’s Rachel Homan is the lone undefeated team left in the week-long event, improving to 7-0 on Tuesday.
Manitoba’s Michelle Englot, who authored Monday’s come-from-behind, 8-7 stunner against McCarville, is second at 7-1, a win more than defending champion Chelsea Carey’s Team Canada rink.
B.C. fell to 0-7, one of two teams without a win yet this week.
McCarville takes on Homan in Wednesday’s afternoon draw and P.E.I.’s Robyn MacPhee in Draw 13.
