ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – It’ll be a rematch of last year’s Scotties Tournament of Hearts final in this year’s 3-4 Page playoff game.
Thunder Bay skip Krista McCarville raced out to a 9-3 lead on Friday morning in the final round-robin draw at the national women’s curling championship and claimed her playoff spot with a 10-6 victory over Kerry Galusha’s Northwest Territories squad.
McCarville, lead Sarah Potts, second Ashley Sippala, third Kendra Lilly and alternate Oye-Sem Won Briand finished the week in fourth place at 8-3 and will take on Chelsea Carey and Team Canada in the 3-4 contest.
McCarville jumped in front 3-0 in the first end and took a 6-1 lead in the fourth, drawing to the rings to score two.
Galusha grabbed two back in the fifth, but crashed on her final stone in the sixth trying to bury behind her own rock in the rings, leaving an easy double for McCarville to score three and take a 9-3 lead.
After picking up another deuce in the seventh to close the gap to four, Galusha stole a sixth point in the eighth when McCarville’s draw for one went too deep.
The teams shook hands in the ninth.
The 3-4 game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The 1-2 game goes Friday night.
