Christian Finch scored the game winner Friday night at 13:45 of the third period, just 15 seconds after LU’s Kelin Ainsworth had tied the game, erasing a two-goal deficit, but to no avail.

The host Toronto Varsity Blues hung on for the 4-3 triumph, dropping Lakehead to ninth place in the OUA West, a point behind both Toronto and Guelph.

It was Lakehead’s third straight defeat.

Corey Jackson and Jeff Brown staked Toronto to a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes. Jay Gilbert cut the lead in half with 2:16 to go in the second, but the Varsity Blues regained a two-goal lead early in the third on  Patrick Marsh tally.

Cody Alcock began the Lakehead comeback at 9:48 of the final stanza, with Ainsworth netting the equalizer on the power play at the 13:30 mark.

Brett Willows made 27 saves to earn the win in net, while Jeff Bosch stopped 19 of 23 shots directed his way in taking the loss.
The Wolves (8-12-2) travel across town on Saturday night to take on Ryerson (11-9-1).
