THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Trevor Pereverzoff of the English River Miners has been named its CCM Hockey best defenceman award recipient for the 2016-17 season.

Pereverzoff earned the accolades over fellow CCM Hockey best defenceman nominees Ryan Walsh of the Thunder Bay North Stars and Tristan Knott of the Dryden GM Ice Dogs in voting completed by each of the league’s member teams.

The 20-year-old native of Kelowna, B.C., suited up in all 56 regular season games and anchored the English River defensive corps throughout the campaign.

His 19 goals and 10 power play markers led all SIJHL defencemen and he also shared top spot among league rearguards in game-winning tallies with two.

Pereverzoff also finished second overall in points for D-men with 51, which was just one off the league lead.

He also supplied 16 multi-point nights for the Miners helping them set a franchise record for victories in a season with 31 while his defensive play aided the Miners in establishing a new club mark for fewest goals allowed in a single campaign at 197.
