The Lakehead Thunderwolves met a defensive brick wall, Friday night, and were stymied by the Western Mustangs in a 3-0 loss at the C. J. Sanders Fieldhouse.
Scores in the sets were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-14.
With the Thunderwolves leading scorer, outside hitter Vanessa Chorkawy sidelined with an injured hand, the ‘Stangs took advantage, collecting 81 digs and limiting Lakehead to a 0.186 kill percentage. Senior middle Karla Brayshaw and freshman Sarah Reid, also of Thunder Bay, paced the ‘Wolves with 10 points apiece while libero Tessa Mendel getting 15 digs.
Elaine Screaton had a solid all-around game with 15 points and 15 digs, while Jaqueline Robinson also notching a double-double with 12 points and 11 digs. Rebecca Oxland and Claire Morrow also reach double digits in digs with 13 and 10, respectively.
The Wolves will be back in action next weekend for another three-game road-trip with Jan. 22 and 23 games at Toronto against the Varsity Blues and a Jan. 24 day at McMaster.
