Thunder Bay’s Jason Myslicki finished 45th of 45 competitors in Sunday's Nordic combined 10-kilometre event.

Myslicki, 32, started the cross-country portion of the race in 43rd spot after a poor result in the ski-jumping competition. That put him a full two minutes and 50 seconds behind
Janne Ryynaenen of Finland, who held the early lead.

Myslicki scored just 93 points on his jump, and took 27:20 to cross the finish line during the cross-country race, leaving him 4:23.6 behind eventual gold medalist Jason Lamy Chappuis of France. American Johnny Spillane, who led until the skiers reached the stadium, finished second, while Italy's Alessandro Pittin took the bronze.

In Nordic combined, competitors are scored for their ski jump, with the result determining where they will start the cross-country portion of the race. The top jumper goes first, with the remaining racers starting anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes behind. The winner of the event is the first person to cross the finish line.

It wasn't all disappointing Olympic news on Sunday. Quebec's Alexandre Bilodeau won the men's moguls to capture Canada's first gold medal of the Vancouver Games.

Canada now has three medals in total, including Jennifer Heil's silver in Saturday's women's mogul competition and speed skater Kristina Groves's bronze-medal effort in the women's 3,000-metre event.
