Nationals in top spot at Canadian Little League championship

Jack Pineau tosses four strong innings, Evan Lachimea goes deep for the third time in two days to lead Port Arthur to victory.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. – The Port Arthur Nationals are alone atop the Little League Canadian championship standings.

The Thunder Bay squad on Friday captured a second straight triumph, powered once again by the bat of Evan Lachimea.

The youngster bashed his third home run in two day to help lead the Nationals to a 9-4 win over Quebec’s Mirabel Diamond Academy, improving to 2-0.

Lachimea, who is batting .714 in the tournament, has seven RBI in two games.

Jack Pineau was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, while Ben Savor had two RBI in the matinee contest.

The Nationals are the only undefeated team remaining in the six-team event.

Pineau gave up three hits in four innings to earn the win.

Joel Ouellette took the loss for Mirabel Diamond Academy, giving up two runs on three hits, taking over from starter Thomas Landry, who gave up four in recording just one out while walking four batters.

Port Arthur (2-0) takes on Lethbridge (1-1) on Saturday afternoon.

Lethbridge downed Glace Bay 7-1 on Friday.
