NDC Thunder Bay cross-country skiers are back in town after two weeks of training in Quebec.
The athletes wasted no time getting back to work by helping to lead the OST Midsummer Camp comprised of Ontario’s best 16 to 18-year-old skiers. Throughout the week the skiers have been treated to a grueling regimen of running, rollerskiing, skiwalking, and intense strength sessions at the gym.
The skiers’ energy levels have been sustained by the fantastic food prepared by the Big Thunder Nordic Ski Club parents. The training and nutrition clearly paid off on Friday when almost every athlete recorded a Personal Best at the 3km uphill run, the gold standard for local skiers.
When asked how the Camp was going, NDC Head Coach Timo Puiras explained “This is a great opportunity for the young up-and-coming skiers across Ontario to experience for themselves the excellent living and training environment NDC skiers enjoy in Thunder Bay.”
The week wraps up the way all trips to Thunder Bay should, with a trip to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park on Sunday to run the Giant.
