Bradley Belisle hopes his future lies in the United States Hockey League and at the U.S. college level.

But for now he can be satisfied knowing he’s the top freshman in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

Belisle on Monday was named the league’s rookie of the year, after scoring 23 goals and 47 points in 56 games in his debut campaign with the Thunder Bay North Stars.

He edged Dryden’s Troy Williams and English River’s Alec Maticic for the trophy.

Belisle, who has committed to play at Bemidji State University, scored a rookie-best nine power-play markers and is the fifth North Star to capture the trophy, a list that includes Jay Pelletier (2009), Kale Kerbashian (2007), Dustin Fummerton (2006) and Andrew Fernandez (2005).
