North Stars get new handle

The Superior International Junior Hockey League franchise, threatened with financial insolvency, will continue on, known as the Thunder Bay North Stars, league officials announced Friday afternoon.

Coach Todd Howarth told Dougall Media on Thursday that the team was in search of an additional $30,000 of investment to keep the team alive, to add to the $70,000 they'd already raised.

The financial problems arose when former owner Gerald Bannon could no longer afford to float the team.

The Stars are scheduled to host Dryden on Friday and Saturday night at Fort William Gardens.
