THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League has announced that Thunder Bay North Stars forward Nicholas Nigro has been named the Amyotte’s Awards & Promotions Corp. player of the week for the period ending Jan. 10.
In four games last week the Thunder Bay native, who turned 20 on Jan. 4, amassed 10 points helping the North Stars reel off four victories and raise their season-high win streak to five in the process.
Nigro began by notching a hat trick and adding an assist in a 5-2 Fort William Gardens triumph over the English River Miners on his birthday.
Two nights later he added another helper as his side doubled up league-leading Fort Frances 4-2 on home ice.
Nigro kept it going last Friday as he scored all three of his team’s goals in a 3-1 road triumph over the Lakers.
Capping off his impressive week, he dished out a couple of assists in a 3-2 win over Minnesota this past Saturday.
Currently riding a six-game point streak, Nigro’s efforts have helped him move up to third in SIJHL scoring with 37 points on 20 tallies and 17 helpers.
Also earning consideration for Amyotte’s player of the week honours was Braedyn Aubin, (F) Dryden GM Ice Dogs;
