DRYDEN, Ont. – The Thunder Bay North Stars haven’t won an SIJHL title since 2010.
But things are looking up early in 2016-17.
The North Stars scored four straight goals on Friday night and knocked off the host Dryden Ice Dogs 5-3 in a battle of the only two remaining undefeated teams in the league.
The win improves the North Stars record to 3-0-0, while Dryden slipped to 2-1-0.
Five different goal scorers did the damage for Thunder Bay, who spotted Braeden Allkins and the Ice Dogs an early 1-0 advantage in the opening four minutes.
Nicholas Nigro, with his fourth of the young campaign, Brad Arabia, Tyler Minoletti and Ryan Walsh staked the Stars to a 4-1 lead before Eric Stout and Jacen Bracko replied two minutes apart in the third to pull Dryden to within a goal.
Jesse Talakoski put the game away for Thunder Bay with five minutes to go in regulation, beating Taylor Unruh with an insurance marker.
Dan Demaria made 25 saves in his North Stars debut. Unruh stopped 29 of 34 shots directed his way.
The North Stars take on Dryden on Saturday night. Next up for Dryden is a rematch against Thunder Bay on Wednesday night at Fort William Gardens.
