North Stars salvage weekend with Sunday win over Miners

EAR FALLS, Ont. -- The Thunder Bay North Stars are in the win column in the New Year. The North Stars four straight goals to erase an early deficit, en route to a 5-2 victory over the English River Miners at the Ear Falls Arena on Sunday morning.

The North Stars four straight goals to erase an early deficit, en route to a 5-2 victory over the English River Miners at the Ear Falls Arena on Sunday morning.

Brandon Wolframe gave the North Stars an early lead before Kirk Coppock and Dominic Blouin gave English River the lead after the first 20 minutes.

The second-place North Stars (19-12-4), who were defeated by the Miners (6-23-3), responded to avoid a losing road trip.

Brett Wolframe tied the game up late in the second and then Daniel McKitrick scored the game-winner at 18:01 of the second period.

Thunder Bay expanded the lead in the third, with Cashen Tighe and Nicholas Nigro beating Miners goalie P.D. Melgoza.

Brandon Wolframe finished the contest with a goal and two assists while Brett Wolframe had a goal and one helper.

North Stars goalie Nathaniel Dupuis earned the win in net, stopping 27 shots.

Thunder Bay is back in action when they host the league leading Fort Frances Lakers (23-7-1) at the Fort William Gardens on Friday.
