A strong start led the Thunder Bay North Stars to a rebound victory.
The North Stars scored three times in the first period for a 5-1 victory to salvage a split against the English River Miners in Superior International Junior Hockey League play at the Fort William Gardens on Saturday.
Daniel Delpaggio, Matthias Gardiman and Brandon Wolframe each had first frame markers to propel the North Stars ahead as they outshot the Miners by an 11-5 margin.
English River bounced back after the first period, and ultimately outshot Thunder Bay 32-25 in the contest. Eric Mann was solid in the North Stars goal, stopping 31 shots in the winning effort.
Zach Grezelewski scored to give the North Stars a 4-0 lead in the final period, before Vincent Currao spoiled Mann's shutout bid. Delpaggio added his second of the game later in the period to cap the scoring.
Next up for the North Stars (16-4-0) is a road date against the Minnesota Iron Rangers (15-8-0) on Wednesday.
