MARATHON, Ont. -- Gold medalists at the Pan-Am and Para-Pan-Am Games in Toronto this summer will be taking home a valuable piece of Northwestern Ontario.
Barrick Gold, the company that owns the Helmo Mine near Marathon, will be producing over 4,000 Pan-Am medals from its mines across the western hemisphere.
The Hemlo Mine will supply the gold, the silver will come from the Dominican Republic and the copper for the bronze medals will be mined in Chile.
The contract comes as the Hemlo Mine celebrates its 30th year of operations.
