She eventually walked away with the win, but Krista McCarville admits that the beginning of her first game of the 2010 Ontario Scotties was scary.

After blanking the first end, her rink gave up two points in the second to Cochrane’s Krista Mayrand. But after scoring a point in the next three and scoring three in the seventh, McCarville said her rink started playing to win.

The Fort William Curling Club rink ended defeated Mayrand 7-4 to win its first game of the tournament Monday afternoon at the Port Arthur Curling Club.

Although the turning point came in the seventh end, McCarville said it’s hard to tell who will win when playing in such a high calibre event.

"You never know," McCarville, who scored another point in the ninth, said. "Every team is a great team at this level."

Port Arthur Curling Club’s Marlo Dahl also played Monday afternoon losing to Mississauga’s Cathy Auld 11-5. Dahl said her rink had a tough time with the faster than usual ice but should be ready to face Peterborough’s Lisa Farnell during Monday’s 7 p.m. match.

McCarville, with new lead Ashley Miharija, second Kari MacLean and third Tara George play Jacqueline Harrison at 7 p.m. Monday.
