THUNDER BAY -- Four Thunder Bay Border Cats have been selected to audition in front of a crowd of major league scouts.
Outfielders Cam Pearcey and Brandon Trammell, along with third baseman Billy Cook and pitcher Omar Maldonado, will rep Thunder Bay in this year's Northwoods League Major League Dreams Showcase, which is set for next week in Madison, Wisc.
The showcase includes workouts in front of scouts, followed by a doubleheader. The first game will feature players from the North Division while the second contest will pit teams made up of South Division talent.
Pearcey, a junior at Coastal Carolina University, is just a few plate appearances short of the minimum to count among the league leaders, otherwise his .350 average would sit second in the entire Northwoods League. He also ranks near the top in stolen bases, with his 27 tied for the second most.
Cook, who will man the hot corner, leads the Border Cats with 33 runs driven in, which places him tied for 10th on the league leaderboard.
Trammell, the son of former major leaguer Bubba Trammell, sports a .256 batting average to go along with three dingers and 21 RBI.
Maldonado, the loner Border Cats hurler selected, has a dismal 12.42 earned run average and 41 walks in 21 innings of work. The right-hander struck out seven batters in four innings of work on Tuesday, though he issued four free passes and gave up three runs.
The Showcase games will be played on Aug. 7.
