STONEY CREEK, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens have advanced to the quarterfinal of the 11th annual Stoney Creek Sabres Showcase.
Thunder Bay moved on after edging the Aurora Panthers 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
Avery Baker led the Queens’ attack by scoring twice in the contest with goaltender Aden Johnson picking up the win in net.
Baker’s first tally was set-up by Alyssa Cicigoi and the game-winner was unassisted helping the club improve to 3-0-1 after four outings in the tourney.
Thunder Bay will now take on either the Brantford Ice Cats or Honeybaked of Michigan in quarter-final action Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
The winner there will then take part in the semifinal at 1:15 p.m. while the championship game is set for 4:15 p.m. in Stoney Creek.
