Thunder Bay Queens Sportop midget AA Queens wrapped up a three-game series against the. St. Mary’s Academy Flames with a pair of draws Saturday in Winnipeg.
After blanking the Flames 3-0 in the opener Friday the two sides played to a 3-3 draw in game one of the day followed by a 4-4 tie in the finale.
The first contest saw the Queens let a 2-0 lead get away as St. Mary’s notched the equalizer with 14.8 seconds to play.
Taylor Basaraba and Bronwyn Bolduc put Thunder Bay up a pair after one period of play.
The Flames then tallied twice in the second to level the proceedings with a shorthanded goal and a power play marker.
Samantha Isbell put the Queens back on top only to see the home side tie in the late going on Kayla Friesen’s second of the game.
In the final game Thunder Bay once again took the lead going up 3-1 after one on markers by Samantha Strassburger, Basaraba and Emily Oleksuk accounting for the Queens’ goals.
St. Mary’s answered back with three of their own in the middle session to go up 4-3 before Strassburger added another in the third to round out the scoring.
Bolduc had a pair of assists for Thunder Bay.
The Sportop Queens now head home to host the Shattuck St. Mary’s Sabres under-19 prep team for a three-game series March 15-16 in Thunder Bay.
Among the notable names on the Shattuck roster are netminder Taylor Crosby, the younger sister of NHL and Canadian Olympic standout Sidney Crosby, along with former Queens’ forward Brooke Boquist.
The Sabres are 29-13-1 overall record on the season to date.
