It's safe to say that the first day of the 2 Nations Tier 1 Elite Showcase was a success for the Thunder Bay Sportop midget AA Queens.
Thunder Bay picked up a pair of wins on the opening day of the Exeter, N.H. based tournament, downing the Shafesbury Prep Titans of Winnipeg 3-1 in the opener and then closing the day with a 9-1 throttling of the Dallas Stars.
Jayde Turcotte picked up the victory in between the pipes for the Queens in the first game, and had her shutout bid foiled in the final minute. Emily Oleksuk, Samantha Strassburger and Kaley Tienhaara provided the offence.
Against Dallas, Strassburger had a five-point game netting a goal and four assists, and Bronwyn Bolduc tallied twice.
Sydney Isbell picked up the win in goal.
Thunder Bay faces a pair of contests on Saturday, playing the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite at 10 a.m. followed by the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals at 6:40 p.m.
