A pair of Thunder Bay Queens teams will return home this weekend with gold medals.

The First Class Gas bantam AA Queens and the Triad Contracting peewee Queens were victorious in their respective finals at the All-American Girls tournament in Blaine, Minn. on Sunday.

Alyssa Cicigoi was the overtime hero to lead the bantam AA squad to a 3-2 extra time victory over the Chasaka-Chanhassen Storm Hawks.

Cicigoi had also opened the scoring earlier in the game for Thunder Bay, and then Danielle Saunders added another to make it a two goal lead.

The Storm Hawks drew even in regulation, capitalizing on two power-play opportunities by beating Queens goalie Alyssa Aho.

The peewee Queens were backstopped by netminder Josee Robinson, who turned aside 25 shots to give Thunder Bay a 3-2 win over the Anoka Tornadoes.

The two sides exchanged goals in the first period, and then in the third Lucy Newman and Breanna Nicol struck just 36 seconds apart to give the side all the cushion they would need.

The Tornadoes outshot the Queens by a 27-16 margin in the contest, but Anoka was unable to beat Robinson for a third time.

The Manshield Construction bantam A Queens wrapped up their tournament with a 3-0 win against North East Metro United.

Samantha Stubbs picked up the shutout as the Queens finished seventh out of 12 teams as they moved up a level to play against bantam AA squads.
