Nelson Rosiak’s second goal of the game 2:55 into overtime propelled the Sioux Lookout Flyers to a 3-2 victory over the Fort Frances Lakers Thursday evening in Superior International Junior Hockey League action at Ice For Kids Arena in Fort Frances.

The Lakers would notch the only goal of the opening period at 16:30 via the power play as the league’s leading scorer Tyler Stevenson buried his 15th goal of the season past Flyers’ netminder Jesse Wilkins.

Sioux Lookout would answer back in the middle frame tallying twice on markers by Rosiak and Dwight Lee less than two minutes apart to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Fort Frances then struck in the third, with the man advantage again, forcing extra time as Blake Boaz set-up Henry Gutierrez for his fifth of the campaign at 12:52.

That would set the stage for Rosiak’s game-winner as he beat Jameson Shortreed to give the Flyers the two points.

Wilkins was stellar making 39 saves to pick up the OT victory while Shortreed faced 28 shots in a losing cause that did help his squad register a point and assume top spot in the standings.

SIJHL action resumes Friday evening as the Dryden Ice Dogs visit Thunder Bay for the first of a two-game set vs. the North Stars at the Fort William Gardens. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The game will mark the first contest for the Stars’ new ownership group that is starting fresh in running the operations of the club.
