Saints stay perfect on hard court

The St. Patrick Saints continue to cruise in varsity boys’ basketball play. Mike Charlebois scored 20 points on Tuesday and Tanner Steudle added 18, leading the Saints to a 76-64 win over the St. Ignatius Falcons.

Nick Soulias had 30 to lead all scorers for the Falcons (1-1).

With the win the Saints take over sole possession of top spot in the SSAAA standings with a 2-0 mark.

Elsewhere the Westgate Tigers picked up their first win of the campaign, riding 25 points by Eric Mantyla to a 94-67 triumph over Superior Collegiate, despite a 44-point effort by the Gryphons Andrew Molnar.

In the only other contest of the day, Mohammed Syed dropped 17 points to lead Sir Winston Churchill to a 76-35 win over Hammarskjold. Keenan Postans topped the Vikings with a dozen points.

In junior boys’ action, Superior downed La Verendrye 68-12, St. Ignatius topped Churchill 65-54 and Westgate dumped Hammarskjold 60-48.

In varsity girls’ volleyball, Westgate took their opening game 2-1 over Superior, St. Ignatius edged St. Patrick 2-1 and Hammarskjold beat Churchill 3-0.

On opening day on the junior girls’ court, St. Ignatius swept Churchill 3-0, Westgate nipped Hammarskjold 2-1 and La Verendrye knocked off Superior 3-0.
