Santa Claus paid an early visit to Thunder Bay on Thursday, urging shoppers to help him fill up a City Transit bus with food to feed the hungry.

He was being helped by members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 966, who joined St. Nicholas at the River Street Metro store for the first of two consecutive five-hour food drives.

“We’re collecting food for the Thunder Bay food bank,” Santa said. “Our campaign is stuff the bus and hopefully we will have a bus full of food to donate to the Thunder Bay food bank for all the needy people at Christmastime.”

Likely the most generous man in the world, Santa said Christmas is all about the spirit of helping out your friends and neighbours.

“Giving is an excellent thing that Thunder Bayites do on a regular basis because they’re such good people and everyone deserves a nice Christmas.

The stuff-a-bus campaign is on until 9 p.m. on Thursday and will be back on Friday night from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Bus drivers will also be accepting food donations on routes around the city.

"We are looking for anything and everything," Santa said. "If you can eat it, people will eat it."
