After the sixth draw Wednesday night, Krista McCarville remains undefeated at the 2010 Ontario Scotties.

The McCarville rink slid their way to a 7-4 win over Sudbury’s Tracy Horgan in a game McCarville said was in her control.

“We had pretty good control the whole game except for the one end. We made the double in the seventh end so it kinda got us out of there,” said McCarville. “I felt good.”

After forcing Horgan to give up the hammer in the first end, McCarville scored a point each in the next two ends. She would pick up two more points on a steal in the fourth end after Horgan’s last shot was too light to knock out McCarville’s two rocks making the game 4-1.

Horgan came back in the fifth with two points after McCarville couldn’t get past a Horgan guard leaving the Sudbury skip to coast in her last shot bringing the game within one point. After a blank sixth end, McCarville picked up another two in the seventh and one in the ninth when the chilly crowd warmed up by doing the wave after an enthusiastic fan egged them on.

A back-and-forth for the button in the tenth ended when Horgan, who had three rocks in the four foot zone, couldn’t get her shot to push enough rocks into the house. McCarville said although she’s happy her rink has remained undefeated in the round robin, they still have three left to play. She said her team is just going to try and maintain their momentum.

“We still have a long way to go,” said McCarville. “I know we still have a lot of tough games to get through.”

Also Wednesday evening, Port Arthur Curling Club’s Marlo Dahl dropped to 0-6 after a 10-5 loss from Cochrane’s Krista Mayrand. Mayrand is tied with Thornhill’s Julie Hastings and Peterborough’s Lisa Farnell at 2-4. Farnell lost Wednesday’s evening draw to Ottawa’s Jenn Hanna who is tied with Alliston’s Jacqueline Harrison, who also won Wednesday night, at 3-3. Horgan is in a three-way-tie with Mississauga’s Cathy Auld and Sarnia’s Carrie Lidner at 4-2.

Thursday’s afternoon draw starts at 2 p.m. with McCarville facing Farnell and Dahl playing Hastings.
