Former Thunder Bay Chill defender Axel Sjoberg will get a chance to strut his stuff in front of Major League Soccer and USL Pro scouts later this month.

Former Thunder Bay Chill defender Axel Sjoberg will get a chance to strut his stuff in front of Major League Soccer and USL Pro scouts later this month.

The Swedish Sjoberg, who helped lead the Chill to a Premier Development League title-game appearance in 2013, earned a late invitation to the upcoming MLS combine slated for Fort Lauderdale, Fla., starting on Jan. 8.

After leaving the Chill, Sjoberg put in an all-star season at Marquette University, earning Big East first team honours after his team allowed just 14 goals in 18 games.

A total of 64 players were invited to the combine, including 48 with PDL ties. As well as Sjoberg, other players getting the late call included last year's PDL MVP, Dzenan Catic of the Michigan Bucks.
