THUNDER BAY -- Former Thunder Bay Chill star Axel Sjoberg is a finalist for Major League Soccer’s defender of the year award.

The 25-year-old Swedish import helped the Chill to a pair of playoff appearances in two seasons with the team, culminating with a berth in the 2013 final in Austin, Texas.

He’s spent the past two seasons with the Colorado Rapids, scoring twice in 30 games with the MLS club in 2016.

The finalists were chosen by three voting groups, including current MLS players, team officials and the media who regularly covered league play.

The winner will be notified on Nov. 11.
