The Border Cats crawl to the Northwoods League finish line hit another speed bump Monday night.
Locked in a 1-0 Subway Field battle against the Rochester Honkers, the Cats surrendered seven runs in the sixth inning and went on to lose their sixth straight contest, 14-1.
Starter Chris Kerwood landed the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks. Replacement Daniel Stoney was hit hard again, charged with nine runs – seven earned – while only managing to record a pair of outs.
Tyler Baker was 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI for the Honkers. Max Murphy and Parker Sullivan each drove in two.
Jason Vosler plated the lone Border Cats run, a seventh inning single, one of just two hits Thunder Bay collected off Rochester starter Matt Kent.
The all-star Kent went eight strong, striking out 11 to improve to his record to 5-3. Kerwood slipped to 4-6.
The last-place Cats fell to 6-23, while sixth-place Rochester jumped to 8-21.
