THUNDER BAY -- With one year under their belts, the organizers of the Staal Foundation Open are looking to take the event to the next level.

The PGA Tour Canada tournament will return to the Whitewater Golf Course from July 13-19 for its second annual event.

“Last year was our first year and our focus was primarily on hosting the best event on PGA Tour Canada and making certain the competitors, organizers and crowds would look forward to coming back,” tournament committee member Joe Quaresima said.

“Planning is in the works for additional recreational events and expanded viewing opportunities. It’s really about creating a festival atmosphere for the whole family.”

New elements for this year’s tournament include interactive golf, power golf and trick shot exhibition, executive women’s day and a million dollar shootout.

Organizers are also adding additional corporate suites on the No. 18 green.

The Staal Family Foundation will raise funds to support families and children with cancer.

Last year a total of 12,000 people attended the inaugural tournament, which was won by Wes Homan.
