But Travis Tilley's goal at 2:21 of the opening period would be their last of the night. The host Wisconsin Wilderness, on the other hand, were nowhere near finished their offensive output.

The Wilderness rolled off six straight tallies, taking their Superior International Junior Hockey League opener 6-1 and lead the best-of-seven series 1-0.

Andrew Anderson and Jeremy Johnson had a pair apiece for the top-ranked Wildnerness, while Wilson Housley earned three assists in the victory.

Mike Dietrich and Jordan Shockley also scored for Wisconsin, who fired just 30 shots on North Stars goalie Marc Nother, three less than Thunder Bay rifled at SIJHL goaltender of the year Tanner Milliron in the Wilderness net.

The two teams play Game 2 on Saturday night, with Game 3 set for Wednesday at Fort William Gardens.
