Strongman competition raises funds for charity

A local strongman competition brought some of the toughest competitors across the world together for a good cause.

THUNDER BAY -- A local strongman competition brought some of the toughest competitors across the world together for a good cause.

In an effort to raise funds for the Friends of Olivia Foundation, more than 60 competitors from across the world took part in the Thunder Bay’s first Classic and Fitness Expo, which took place at the Royal Canadian Slovak Legion this past weekend.

The three-day event brought in about 1,200 people to support a good cause and see what strength these strong individuals had to offer.

The competition included women’s strongman, powerlifting, bench press, kid’s strongman, amateur strongman, intermediate strongman and a headlining professional strongman event.

Strongman Maxime Boudreault of Timmins took home first place in the professional strongman competition followed by Ben Thompson of Thunder Bay and Dom Leontas of Winnipeg.

The professional strongmen event ranked as followed:

  1. Maxime Boudreault (Timmins, Ontario)
  2. Ben Thompson (Thunder Bay, Ontario)
  3. Dom Leontas (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
  4. Andre Pellerin (Thunder Bay, Ontario)
  5. Leif Weiz (Edmonton, Alberta)
  6. Kris Hald (Thunder Bay, Ontario)
  7. Ryan Fodchuk (Thunder Bay, Ontario)
