The Lakehead Thunderwolves women's volleyball team got their season off to a positive start as they look to build on last year's statement making campaign.

Lakehead went 3-1 on their season opening exhibition trip in the United States, capped by a pair of wins on Saturday in Superior, Wisc.

The Thunderwolves started the day with a four set victory over Crown College (15-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-18). Leading the charge was rookie Katie McClennan who recorded 22 kills in her Lakehead debut. Veteran setter Sara Hudson set up the attack with 44 assists.

The second victory was hard fought and went down to the wire, but the Thunderwolves outlasted Duluth's St. Scholastica College in five sets (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 16-25, 15-13). Kailin Robinson recorded 17 kills in the victory, and setter Vanessa Masters was responsible for 41 assists.

Lakehead will continue their exhibition slate next weekend as they travel to Halifax for a tournament.
