THUNDER BAY -- Forty minutes in and it looked like the Lakehead Thunderwolves were tracking for a third straight defeat.

They rewrote that script in the third.

Cody Alcock, Dylan Butler and Justin Sefton scored a trio of unanswered goals in the final period, Sefton’s power-play equalizer coming with 1:46 to go in regulation, and Carson Dubchak scored the winner with six seconds left in double overtime as the Thunderwolves rallied from a 3-0 deficit Friday night to claim a 4-3 road win over the Thunder Bay coach Greg Puhalski and the Laurier Golden Hawks.

The two teams played a scoreless first, Laurier erupting for three goals in the second. Will Cook netted the game’s first goal, beating Devin Green 4:09 into the second. Less than four minutes later Jacob Hetherington doubled the Golden Hawks lead. Derek Schoenmakers added a third goal at the 17:37 mark.

Green held steady after that, turning aside 35 of 38 shots on the night. Colin Furlong took the loss for Laurier, stopping 28 shots.

With the win the Thunderwolves jumped into a tied for sixth in the OUA West, their 7-6-1 record identical with Brock’s. Laurier is a point ahead at 7-6-2.

The two teams will tangle again on Saturday night.
