Zach Thiac only tossed one inning, but it was enough to earn the Thunder Bay Border Cats reliever the win Tuesday night at the Northwoods League all-star game.
Thiac entered the game in the third and gave up a hit and a walk, but no runs, for the North Division all-stars, who went on to win the contest 7-5 over the South Division all-stars.
Willmar Stingers slugger Marc Flores, who has 10 homeruns in regular-season play, hit a two-run blast for the winning side in a four-run second that propelled the North to an early 4-0 lead.
The South struck back with four of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Mankato catcher Matt Wollenzin and Willmar’s Michael Suchy each drove in a pair for the North, who took the lead for good in the fourth and added two more in the sixth.
Battle Creek outfielder Cam Gibson and Madison’s Drew Weeks led the way offensively for the South side, each picking up a pair of RBI.
Battle Creek’s Hunter Devall was tagged with the loss.
The Cats return home Thursday night to Subway Field, where they'll take on the Duluth Huskies after a disappointing 1-7 road trip.
