WINNIPEG – Thunder Bay’s Jamie Kompon has landed an assistant coaching job with the Winnipeg Jets.
Kompon, a two-time Stanley Cup winner as an assistant with Los Angeles in 2012 and Chicago in 2013, most recently served as coach and general manager of the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks.
The 49-year old will serve under head coach Paul Maurice, joining former NHLers Charlie Huddy and Wade Flaherty behind the bench.
Kompon led the Winterhawks to a 77-54-13 record over the past two seasons, but was fired after the team was swept from the first round of the WHL playoffs in four straight by the Everett Silvertips.
He was with the Kings from 2006 to 2011 and spent two seasons with the Blackhawks from 2012 to 2014.
He also had a variety of roles with the St. Louis Blues in nine seasons with that team and was a co-coach at McGill University in 1994-95, where he also played university hockey before playing professionally in the ECHL and Germany.
