LONDON, Ont. -- The Lakehead Thunderwolves charge for the final OUA women's basketball playoff spot hit a snag on the road on Friday night.

The Wolves carried a five-point halftime lead over the No. 5 Western Mustangs, but couldn't hold on in the second half, their four-game winning streak snapped after a 78-73 defeat.

Sofia Lluch, LU's player of the month for January, had 22 points to lead the Wolves. Nikki Ylagan had 18 and Megan Looney, filling in for an injured Lily Gruber-Schulz in the starting lineup, finished with 14.

Elizabeth Leblanc had 16 to lead the Mustangs.

The loss dropped the Thunderwolves to 7-12, giving them a two-point cushion over Algoma for the final playoff OUA playoff spot.

The Thunderbirds helped their own cause on Friday night, edging Toronto 56-54.

Western improved to 17-3. They lead the OUA West by four points over Windsor (15-4).
