Thunderwolves land Markham recruit at guard position

The quest to replenish his roster has begun for Lakehead Thunderwolves coach Manny Furtado.

The quest to replenish his roster has begun for Lakehead Thunderwolves coach Manny Furtado.

The second-year bench boss on Saturday announced his first recruit on Saturday, 6-foot-2 guard Nahshon Hurst of Bill Crothers Secondary School in Markham, Ont.

Hurst, who plans to study psychology, said he decided on the Thunder Bay school for a number of reasons.

"I chose Lakehead because it is the perfect school for me to focus on becoming the best individual, student and basketball player I can be.‎ I see the potential of the team and the championship calibre level they can perform at. There aren't many places as supportive as Lakehead. I'm looking forward to being part of the team and the city. I want to help bring the title home to Thunder Bay."

Furtado, in a release issued by Lakehead athletics, said he was excited by Hurst's pending arrival with the men's basketball team.

"Nahshon's athleticism, length, and competitive drive will definitely help our team going forward," Furtado said.
