Mike Hammond has a knack for scoring when it counts.

On Friday night he did it again, potting the overtime winner that capped a near miraculous 4-3 road comeback for the Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s hockey team. Trailing the host Brock Badgers 3-1 with less than three minutes to go in regulation, Andrew Wilkins and the red-hot Adam Sergerie scored goals 1:36 apart to send the game to extra time.

It was Sergerie’s second goal of the night and sixth in three outings. Sergerie also scored 7:18 into the second, cutting a 2-0 Windsor lead in half.

Dan Dooley, in the first and Abercrombie, in the second, scored early goals for Brock. Andrew Radjanovic restored the two-goal Badgers lead on the power play at 17:10.

Alex Dupuis made 38 saves to collect the win for Lakehead in nets.

The Wolves once again played shorthanded, without the services of suspended forwards Jake Carrick, Carson Dubchak and Trevor Gamache.

The win pushed Lakehead (17-8-2), winners of three straight, two points ahead of third-place Guelph. A win in Saturday’s regular season finale at Waterloo would clinch second place in the OUA West. The point the Badgers (9-14-5), who are done regular-season play, a two-point cushion over last place UOIT for the final playoff berth.
